Island Living
in the Gulf & San Juan Islands
The Pacific Northwest Islands are known for their pristine natural beauty. Getting away to the Canadian Gulf Islands or U.S. San Juan Islands is a magical experience that begins with a relaxing ferry ride from the mainland. These jewel-like islands are easily accessible by water and air, including regular commuter airline service from Vancouver and Seattle. If you are looking for a peaceful lifestyle where you drive by rural farmlands and expansive ocean vistas on the way to town, the islands are a wonderful place to live. A large percentage of island residents are recreational property owners or retirees, bringing with them their life earnings and professional interests, which makes the local communities rich in cultural offerings and amenities. Gourmet restaurants, local theatre, working art galleries, golf courses and destination marinas are readily found on the ferry served islands. While fractional cottage ownership is more common in the Gulf Islands, the older Resorts of Roche Harbor and Rosario Resort are developing more condominium and townhouse offerings in the San Juan Islands.
